Dr McFadzean, Sir, may I invite you to say a few words to this gathering of distinguished participants. TanJoo Hock VUl Welcome It is my privilege on behalf of May & Baker to welcome you here today. We have representatives from nine countries - Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Sweden and UK. It is appropriate that this Symposium on Cervagem be held in South-east Asia where so much excellent development work was done with this product. Cervagem has resulted from many years of collaborative research and development between May & Baker and the Ono Pharmaceutical Company of Japan. It has been a most happy collaboration from the time the active ingredient ONO-802 was synthesized by the Ono Company. You will hear today of the stage we have reached with the R&D work."

    Companion to Gynaecology

    400 850

    Companion to Gynaecology

by C.L.-H. Huang (Author), V.G. Daniels (Author)

This book was written to provide a clear and systematic sum mary of the principles of gynaecology in synoptic form. It is part of a three volume series, the first two volumes covering topics in undergraduate obstetricE! and neonatal medicine respectively. Where appropriate, fundamentals of related anatomy and physiology are also covered. It is primarily directed at under graduate medical students and midwives, but material useful as reference to doctors revising for further qualifications has been included. Although much of the content is organized in the form of lists, this book differs from the usual 'list' book in that cover age is full and systematic. Thus the text has been organized into the following subheadings, where appropriate: Definitions, Aetiology, Pathophysiology, Clinical features, Differential Diag nosis, Investigations, Treatment, and Prognosis. To avoid rep etition, certain clinical areas including ectopic pregnancy and abortion which have been covered in the earlier volumes are not included. Certain useful diagnostic lists are also provided, and, in pre paring the book, previous examination papers of the Univer sities of Oxford, Cambridge and London, as well as of the Central Midwives Board, were consulted. Illustrations have been specially prepared in the form of explanatory line drawings that are simple, and easy to memorize and reproduce. Although drug dosages were checked with care before going to press, changes in medical practice make it advisable to verify regimes and doses with the latest prescribing information and the pharmacopoeia, before use.

    Complications in Gynecological Surgery

    by Peter O'Donovan (Editor)

Risk management is a relatively new process that can sometimes evoke feelings of suspicion among clinicians. However, when used proactively, it offers the opportunity to act at the root cause of an incident to expose de? ?ci- cies in the system rather than in individuals. This process encourages a s- portive approach to patients, relatives, and staff. The overall aim should be to learn lessons rather than to attribute blame. References 1. Complications of Gynecologic Endoscopic Surgery 1st Edition

    by Keith B. Isaacson (Author)

Featuring the work of Dr. Isaacson - a recognized and respected member of the Ob/Gyn community - this new resource examines all aspects of complications that can potentially occur in gynecologic endoscopic surgery. It offers comprehensive coverage of the entire patient perioperative process, from choosing the appropriate patient to undergoing gynecologic endoscopic surgery...and every process in between. Each chapter has a consistent format touching on the prevention, recognition, and management of a specific complication, and starts with a review of the literature on the likelihood that a specific complication will occur. Abundant diagrams and photographs of complications and management enhance the material and illustrate and clarify the concepts presented. Categorizes complications by damage to a specific organ system and not from a particular procedure. Covers the prevention, recognition, and management of complications to the GI, GU, vascular organ systems as well as complications from infection, thermal injury and patient positioning. Focuses on the recognition of specific complications to minimize patient morbidity and maximize early management. Presents a consistent chapter organization throughout to facilitate quick access to guidance on specific complications. Includes chapters on vascular, bowel, and ureter injuries - areas where most serious complications arise. Offers a comprehensive review - written by two attorneys - of how to prevent a lawsuit and how to manage the process when a notice has been served.

Consults in Obstetric Anesthesiology 1st ed

by Suzanne K. W. Mankowitz (Editor)

This text addresses the need for a book specifically aimed at obstetric anesthesia and covers topics such as pulmonary, cardiac renal, hepatic, hematologic, neurologic, endocrine and other diseases. The real anesthetic challenge arises when patients present to Labor and Delivery with unusual or complicated medical problems and, in recent years, a few of the larger institutions have developed an Obstetric Anesthesiology Consultation Service to prepare for the management of these patients. While most pregnant women who present to Labor and Delivery require anesthetic intervention, they typically meet the anesthesiologist for the first time in labor. Since the majority of laboring women are healthy without significant comorbidities, this does not present much of a challenge to the anesthesiologist and the anesthetic management tends to be straight-forward with favorable outcomes. However, using this new model, the anesthesiologist has the opportunity to discuss the various treatment modalities and potentially suggest diagnostic testing to be performed prior to delivery, similar to the pre-operative testing that is done in other surgical environments.
